“All I see is what I need / In my own hometown / In my own hometown.” These telling lyrics taken from the title track of Paul Cannon Band’s debut full-length record Homegrown highlight the theme that lies beneath all of band leader Paul Cannon’s music to date. From the folksy harmonica twinges of “All She Wants” to the dynamic singer/songwriter vibes of album opener “We Can Change,” Homegrown is representative of the positivity Cannon strives to evoke through his honest and exploratory lyrics.

Based in San Diego, the band’s springtime album (released on March 25, 2013) comes on the heels of a 2011 four-track EP and three single releases in 2012. A year after its official launch, the “Homegrown” single has not only inspired a television campaign promoting San Diego’s own 102.1FM KPRI and the local artists it spotlights: it has also become the symbolic link between the community outreach that Cannon immerses himself in and the music he creates with his backing band.
