Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown at the Griffin in San Diego on January 23, 2013.

On January 23, the Griffin hosted the best show San Diego
ever missed. The band onstage (and on the floor, and in the audience) was Tyler
Bryant & the Shakedown, a four-piece rock ‘n roll outfit from Nashville whose
recent debut Wild Child hit #5 on the
iTunes Rock Albums chart. Those lucky enough to be in the audience were treated
to a night they’ll never forget.
This band is used to packing rooms for their blistering
performances, but at the Griffin they proved they’ll bring their a-game
regardless of audience size. Free to stretch their legs, the band toured the
room, electrifying the air with gut-driven riffs and celebrating the music that
makes their world go ‘round. Front man Tyler Bryant and guitarist Graham
Whitford raced each other in dueling solos as bassist Noah Denney controlled
the groove, pacing just inches away from eager listeners who couldn’t believe
their luck in witnessing such an intimate performance. Drummer Caleb Crosby joined
the party in front of the stage, pounding breakneck beats into the ground and
driving the energy to monumental heights. The only fault with the show was that
it couldn’t last forever.
Listen up, San Diego: these guys are the real deal, and odds
are good music lovers will be waiting in mile-long lines the next time this
band comes to town.
